Objectives

  1. Identify maternal risk factors and implications for the fetus and newborn.
  2. Describe physiologic changes/observations that define readiness and success of extra-uterine adaptations.
  3. Determine risk factors for hypothermia, hypoglycemia, and hyperbilirubinemia and establish a plan of preventative care.
  4. Describe the process for a systematic, head to toe newborn physical examination.
  5. Apply critical thinking process for nursing care plan development based on various common and uncommon physical assessment findings.

This CNE activity is being offered for 4.5 contact hours.
