Objectives
- Identify maternal risk factors and implications for the fetus and newborn.
- Describe physiologic changes/observations that define readiness and success of extra-uterine adaptations.
- Determine risk factors for hypothermia, hypoglycemia, and hyperbilirubinemia and establish a plan of preventative care.
- Describe the process for a systematic, head to toe newborn physical examination.
- Apply critical thinking process for nursing care plan development based on various common and uncommon physical assessment findings.
